Teach Etiquette and Poise

Teach Etiquette and Poise

Poise is a quality anyone can have. As an aspiring etiquette expert, you know all children and adults deserve the chance to learn it.

Merriam-Webster describes being poised as “marked by easy composure of manner or bearing.” It means to be comfortable in our skin.

Poise is a quality we practice. Here is the good news, poise can be taught.

Why It’s Important to Teach Poise and How it Translates in Today’s Society

Grace, self-respect and gratitude will always play an important role in our lives. It is who we are and we must continue to teach it. It is how we thrive as a culture and as an individual. Poise is what makes us proud.

How We Teach Poise as Etiquette Experts

  1. Be fully present. This is a gift and it tops the list. In our device ridden world, paying attention has become an abnormality. When we do…boy does it make a difference – for ourselves and those around us. Paying attention is a gift.
  2. Posture. How you walk into a room to sitting in a classroom is crucial. How we compose ourselves matters from the inside out. Teach children how to walk into a room with their shoulders pulled back and down, chin up and to walk as if they know where they are going. Posture is one what we see when someone walks into a room. Posture IS our first impression.
  3. Manage your emotions: Poise means being balanced and although at times this can be a challenge, pause and do the best you can. Managing your emotions is part of maturity.
  4. Respect your belongings: Taking care of your possessions is a sign of poise and caring. This is important to teach children. You can teach them to take care of their clothes, their devices, remember to bring home their backpacks- it is the little habits that add up when teaching poise. This also cultivates self-respect.
  5. Being authentic: Knowing who you are and being purposeful is being poised. Owning your thoughts and behaviors is critical to being poised.
  6. Kindness: Being intentional with how you treat yourself and others. Think before you speak. Practice being empathetic to others circumstances.
  7. Confidence: Of course, this entire list adds up to confidence. When you are poised you are confident.
  8. Be gracious: Poise and gratitude go hand-in-hand. Teaching appreciation is an important part and taught extensively in the Manners To Go curriculum. We all feel better when we express appreciation as often as possible in our daily lives.

The Ultimate Guide For How To Become An Etiquette Coach

The Ultimate Guide For How To Become An Etiquette Coach

Have you ever considered becoming an etiquette coach? If you like working with children and want to make a difference, this career could be right for you. But knowing how to become an etiquette coach can be a little daunting!

Don’t worry! It’s totally possible to build a successful career as an etiquette coach doing what you love. With a few key steps, you’ll be able to start your business and grow a client base with ease.

What Is An Etiquette Coach?

If you’re thinking about how to become an etiquette coach, it’s important to fully understand what it actually is!

As an etiquette coach, you will teach children and teenagers how to navigate society and the world around them. You’ll teach children to form healthy relationships and participate in society in a meaningful, productive way!

Beyond that, etiquette coaches teach children to express their needs in a polite way and to effectively communicate with others. These are lasting, lifelong social skills that you’ll be helping to foster!

Etiquette coaching is incredibly rewarding, and at work, you will be challenged and fulfilled every single day.

Why You Should Consider Becoming An Etiquette Coach

As an etiquette coach, you’re a business owner! You become an entrepreneur working for yourself. You’ll have total freedom, control, and flexibility as you grow your business.

You can completely customize your services and offerings. You’ll be able to work in different environments (and even work remotely from anywhere in the world!)

Etiquette coaches also need to consistently focus on education. The world is always changing, and to help children navigate it, you have to stay up-to-date!

That’s why investing in an etiquette coaching certification is an excellent idea.

How To Become An Etiquette Coach

Knowing how to become an etiquette coach doesn’t have to be so overwhelming. Here are my best tips for starting your business!

Make The Leap

Honestly, before I started my business, I watched other etiquette coaches doing something I knew I would love. Being on the sidelines doesn’t serve you in a meaningful way, though!

When you know you want to do something, make the leap!

Making a bold change like starting a business is scary. But the scariest decisions really do pay off the most. Take advantage of the tips and insights below. Learn how to become an etiquette coach, and then take the leap!

Invest In Education

One of the most important components of becoming a coach is choosing to invest in education. Learning, shifting, and adapting are so important in any business…

….and, as an etiquette coach, it’s even more important!

Choosing to become a certified coach helps you establish credibility in your business. With a strong certification program, you’ll be able to build a successful business right from the start. Manners To Go provides two certification programs with strategies, all the information you’ll need, and lasting support.

Make Some Important Decisions & Set Up Your Business

You’ll need to make some important decisions in order to start your business.

When thinking about how to become an etiquette coach, you’ll need to choose the right niche. What ages of children do you want to work with? Which demographics do you want to support?

You could hone in on:

  • Large-group settings (school assemblies)
  • Classrooms (preschool to college)
  • One-on-one sessions with personal clients
  • Youth groups or youth organizations

With our certification program, you’ll receive all the tools, training, and resources you need for all of those environments!

Behind the scenes, you’ll need to take all the necessary steps to set up your business. Research how to file for proper business licenses in your state. Make sure that you follow all of the legal requirements so your business is legitimate!

Decide What You’ll Teach In Your Business

If you’re wondering how to become an etiquette coach, you’ll need to decide what services you offer!

You can teach basic manners, like these:

  • Eye contact
  • First impressions
  • Respect
  • Introductions
  • Posture
  • Conversation Skills

One area to consider focusing on is dining etiquette. Table manners are one of the most popular areas for etiquette coaches to focus on. You can teach both American and European etiquette for the dining table.

If you’re going to teach etiquette at schools, you can try public, private, or charter schools. There are also opportunities at after-school programs and nonprofits!

Parents are always looking for ways to supplement their children’s social education. You could implement private manners lessons, birthday parties, or group social etiquette classes. There are always one-on-one sessions, too!

You should also think about creative marketing opportunities for your etiquette coaching business.

Offer things like afternoon tea sessions, “charm school,” or sessions to prepare teens for college interviews. You could even host a cotillion!

Becoming an etiquette coach is an incredible, exciting decision. Learning how to become an etiquette coach using the above tips will help you find success!

If you’re ready to take the leap, learn more about our etiquette certification programs now.

The Best Scone You Will Ever Eat

Etiquette Certification and Training Tiffany's New York City

Claridge’s in London is known for their afternoon tea.

A few years ago, I invited about twenty or so over for afternoon tea to honor the Downton Abbey movie. I served the scones mentioned below. They were outstanding! The best I have made.

I am sharing the recipe with you today. The ingredients are easy to find….most likely you already have them in your pantry.

From ‘Claridge’s: The Cookbook’ by Martin Nail and Meredith Erickson/Mitchell Beazley Publishing

Ingredients:

11 1/2 ounces (330 g) plain flour, plus extra for dusting

2 1/4 ounces (60 g.) caster sugar (white sugar works well)

1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 1/4 ounces cold unsalted butter, cubed

2 1/2 ounces (70 g.) raisins (optional; I like currants when I can find them)

3 3/4 ounces buttermilk (110 ml)

3 ounce whole milk (90 ml.)

3 3/4 (fluid ounce) 110 ml.) whole milk

1 beaten egg with a pinch of salt for the egg wash

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, then add the butter and rub into the flour mixture with your fingers until you have a fine crumb (you could also pulse this five to six times in a food processor to achieve the same sandy texture, but it’s almost as fast to work by hand). If you’re making raisin scones, stir the raisins in now. Transfer to a smaller container, cover and leave to rest in the refrigerator overnight, or until thoroughly chilled.
  2. The next morning, preheat the oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Transfer the butter and flour mixture to the standing mixer. Slowly mix in the buttermilk and milk until the dough comes together.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to form a circle, about 8 inches (21 cm.) in diameter and 3/4 inch (2 cm.) thick, then cut out 12 scones using the pastry cutter. Transfer the scones to the prepared baking tray.
  5. Using a pastry brush, carefully brush the tops with the egg wash. We like to let our scones sit out for 20 minutes at room temperature to give the baking powder a chance to activate before we bake them.
  6. Bake until evenly golden, about 12–13 minutes. Leave to cool for 5 minutes, then serve warm.
  7. To serve: We strongly suggest serving these only on the day of baking. Leftover scones can be frozen and will remain good for up to three weeks: as needed, defrost completely, then reheat in a preheated 350 degree Fahrenheit.

Enjoy and see you next week. And don’ t forget to register for the tea. Here is the link again.

As Etiquette Experts, Business Lessons Learned from Audrey

As Etiquette Experts, Business Lessons Learned from Audrey

As an etiquette expert (or an aspiring one), there are many business lessons we can learn from Audrey Hepburn’s life.

Since you are apart of our community, I bet you are a fan of Audrey Hepburn.

Those of us that are interested in etiquette most likely adore her.  Audrey’s sense of style and beauty is alluring and so fascinating.

I was glued to this movie about her life. Warning- this documentary isn’t all about glamour, Hollywood and style.

This documentary about Audrey’s life gets real about her personal life.  She was ten-years-old when the war broke out. She moved to different countries and her father left Audrey when she was six-years-old.  This was devastating to her because she adored him.

After many obstacles in her life, Aubrey still triumphed and had loving relationships with her two children.

Afternoon Tea Etiquette

Here Are 3 Lessons and Traits We Can Learn from Audrey Hepburn

After watching this documentary, there were three character traits that really stood out to me.  I think we can all look to Audrey when we are thinking about our own professional development goals.

Revolutionary: According to the dictionary, “revolutionary” means, causing complete and dramatic change.

Audrey had a real love for ballet and wanted to become a ballerina.  She realized this was not going to happen for her.  She did a pivot because one day she had the chance to become an actress.  She made a comment that she had enough skills and “they”, meaning producers and directors, had “enough to work with”.

Vulnerabilities: Audrey had a very tough childhood. As I mentioned above, she was ten when the war broke out.  Her father left when she was six.  She was married and divorced twice.  Her second marriage to an Italian physician was especially challenging.

She was resilient.  She found happenings and love with Robert Wolders who was her constant companion until her death in 1993.

I loved seeing her son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, talk about his mother.

Transformational: We can all learn from Audrey as she was driven and seized the moment even though certain things-like becoming a ballerina, did not work out for her.

Can you imagine if she did not go down the path of becoming an actress?  She tried. Audrey succeeded.

The documentary is narrated in certain parts by her granddaughter,  Emma Ferrer.

You can find, Audrey, The Documentary on Amazon Prime.
