How to Establish Authority as an Etiquette Expert When You Are First Starting Out

How to Establish Authority as an Etiquette Expert When You Are First Starting Out

How to Establish Authority as an Etiquette Expert When You Are First Starting Out

You may be asking yourself, “how do I establish authority as an etiquette expert”.  This is a very important question.

We are here to guide you on every step.

You will not only want to read this article but take action on the tips listed.

Tips on How to Become an Etiquette Expert

Communicate with your new audience: Start with social media. This is absolutely free! You can start a Facebook page and post your thoughts and observations.  As you read articles that are relevant, comment and post them on your social media platforms.

This is a lifestyle business.  As you are out with your children or grandchildren, post about your adventures at the museum or theater. Have you seen a movie that is relevant? As an example, at the end of this post, you will find an article I wrote about the latest Mary Poppins movie.  Check out the “Links and Resources” at the bottom of this post.

Offer to write articles for your media resources:  You are an expert that can provide valuable information to your clients.  Look for ways to help your community by contributing articles to local parenting magazines, online news, and printed media.  Pitch your story to local news stations.

What do you have in common with your audience:  You know parents are so happy and interested in having their children grow up kind, smart, happy and well-adjusted adults.  Educators are happy to have you share not only your passion but your knowledge within their schools.  Think about what you have in common. with your audience when writing your bio.  Communicate your commonalities when you are introducing yourself to others. This takes practice and intention.  Write down your thoughts and ideas.

Draw from your previous experience:  All of our current licensees have varied backgrounds.  We have teachers, engineers, grandmothers, mothers, human resource managers and event planners.  You have transferable skills that make a difference. Trust me, the world needs what you have to offer.

Look for ways to help others: I tell my licensees not to give away their expertise for free. However, there are times when starting your business, where offering a class pro-bono is at times a good idea.  It gives you experience and at the same time helps an organization or a non-profit.

At Manners To Go, we help you determine your fees and prepare you to write proposals.

As I was starting my business, we moved to the Philadelphia area.  I knew absolutely no one!  I started from scratch.  I got my start by speaking at a local library.  This immediately led to teaching at a premier dining club.  You never know who is sitting in your audience.  This also led to an article in the newspaper both online and print.

Shift your mindset: You are the expert. Think of yourself as one.

What Do You, a Coffee Shop and JK Rowling Have in Common?

So many of us are now discovering our passions and choosing to act on them by starting a business.

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal that references many business owners and authors, one being JK Rowling.  I bet you have heard her story of how she was a struggling single mother in Scotland.  She would head to her favorite coffee shop, The Elephant House to write.

Birthplace of Harry Potter

At Manners To Go we also have outstanding stories about our licensees.  We have a licensee that has an engineering background and now has become an etiquette expert.   See her story in the “Links and Resource Guide” at the end of this post.

Two event planners, one from each coast, have started their business teaching manners to children.  A human resource expert and a busy mom of two took the plunge and they are now sharing her talents with children.

A preschool music teacher has added a manners curriculum to her list of programs.  She has certainly expanded her business by offering manners classes to all ages, not just preschoolers.

Now is the time to start a business!  Especially one teaching children.  The world needs what you have to offer.  Parents are looking for the human connection.  It has become a luxury to offer their children private manners sessions.  Schools definitely need you to teach in the classroom and for school assemblies.

Make sure you see the “Links and Resource Guide” below to read articles about how summer camp programs and country clubs are in need of experts to teach programs.

Natasha Jones has joined our team!  We literally spent two days together, shoulder to shoulder, face to face and got a tremendous amount accomplished on her new business.

You will love watching this video as I interview Natasha who comes to us with a varied background.  She was an industrial engineer and has a corporate background. Listen to her speak about how starting a business teaching etiquette will transform her as she moves forward as an entrepreneur.

As a wife, mother of three and new business owner, Natasha Jones is driven and ready to start teaching manners to children.

Natasha chose our 2-Day/Private Immersion option. We spent two action filled days together learning how to market a  business, write proposals, social media techniques and of course the details on how to teach manners to children.

Not only did she learn the intricacies of American and European style dining, Natasha was also trained by an executive chef on how to eat with chopsticks!

Natasha and I had the opportunity to teach over 40 children at the Boys and Girls Club. She observed me teaching but she participated in the role-playing activities. She watched teenagers learn about the importance of eye contact, a professional handshake, how to make casual and business introductions, and to treat each other with respect and kindness.

Etiquette Expert: How to Get Noticed When You Are First Starting Out

Etiquette Expert: How to Get Noticed When You Are First Starting Out

Etiquette Expert: How to Get Noticed When You Are First Starting Out

Let’s talk about the business of teaching manners to children. After many conversations with those that are already Manners To Go licensees and those of you that are thinking about it…. I am really good at noticing patterns. Specifically those questions around the business aspect of becoming an etiquette expert.

A common question is:

Teaching Manners: How Can I Get Noticed When I am Just Starting Out

You know you have a passion for teaching children and a desire to start a business.  That is not enough.  You must consider the business aspect of it.

We are here to guide you on getting started.  Today, we provide tips on how you can get noticed online and in your community.

Remember, once you are trained and certified, you are educated in the topic and provide a service. You are now the guide and the expert to teach character education, social skills and life stills to children and teenagers.

Mindset: This is key.  You are a business owner.  Let this sink in.  A business mindset is important of course, but your mindset must also be a positive one.  Starting a business takes work but those that have a fresh and positive outlook are the ones that are successful.

Networking: Get out and let other business owners and educators know what you are doing.  Check out local resources in your community.  Attend meetings at your local Small Business Association.  Is there a Femfessionals in your city?  How about the American Business Women’s Association?  Your local Chamber of Commerce?

Social Media: This is free and valuable.  Social media is a key component in showcasing you and your new business. In fact, this training provided during our certification.  We train you in how to use it.  All aspects of it.  Facebook can become your new best friend. It is free and provides a platform for you to practice with your new marketing ideas.  Are you on LinkedIn? If not, set up your profile today.

Be Persistent: Consistency and persistence pays off …in anything we do.  You must follow-up with potential clients.  Change the way you think about persistence.  Being persistent shows that you care.

How Can You Help Someone:  This may be the most important tip of all.  Change your mindset as you make your list of where to get started in your community.  Think about yourself as the expert now.  How can you help the schools in your area?  How can you help provide programming for youth summer camps and country clubs?  How can you help your local Scout programs?  How about all the after school programs?  School assemblies?  I could go on and on but you most likely have a good idea on how you can help.
