One is a newly published author.
Another has taught a 20 week program for a private school. The school along with the parents requested that manners be a part of the standard class structure… not an elective but a requirement for all middle school students.
Within a month of becoming certified, another licensee landed a beautiful article in a local magazine which showcased her etiquette business. See the “links and resources” below to read and watch an interview about April.
A retired educator is about to start her business teaching manners. She is in the midst of building a website and talking about her new business every where she goes. She is such an inspiration!I look forward to our training calls.
I could go on and on about the stories of transformation we hear.
Stay tuned over the new few months as I showcase and interview others about how starting an etiquette business has transformed their lives.

How Mary Poppins Returns Can Inspire You to Be Trained to Teach Manners to Children
I am taking you back in time today….a time when I first started teaching manners to children. Many of you have asked about my early days starting my etiquette business. One of my fondest memories is that of teaching in families homes over the years. Private instructions from day one have been a big part of my business model. They are personal..it is as if you are attending a dinner party is someone’s home. Without a doubt, it is Mary Poppinsesque!
Have you seen Mary Poppins Returns, the movie that was released days ago? If not, stop now and get to the movie theater!
As I was sitting at the movie theater yesterday (eating rosemary parmesan popcorn by the handfuls), it brought back the time when I was prepping for a private instruction. I remember it well because it was absolutely pouring outside.
I needed to prepare my “sack of tricks”. As an etiquette expert and teacher, you need to have your special sack. You know, your beautiful tote for the Manners To Go activity books and placemats. crayons, colored pencils, stickers and other props to make teaching manners fun and interesting.
Our back door was used as our main entrance in our home which was located in our kitchen. Honestly, I dreaded heading out into this miserable day. Not only was it raining but it was a cold day in the northeast.
As I stood there with my pretty sack/tote, I smiled to myself and channeled Mary Poppins. I turned around to head into our foyer to pick out a parasol (almost looked like one) from our umbrella stand that was suited for the occasion.
You need to see this movie if you are considering starting a business teaching manners to children. Trust me. It will inspire and motivate you in so many ways.
Private instructions provide you the chance to offer many parents and children the help they need to teach children life skills. This movie will inspire you to think of ways to make it fun.
What You Can Learn from Mary Poppins Returns
Confidence as a Teacher: Mary Poppins exudes confidence. She takes over in a firm but interesting way ….a way in which the children respect but know they are going to have a good time in her presence.
Sack of Tricks: Whether you are teaching manners or math, you must be prepared. Children are smart and savvy. You need a manners curriculum that you can be proud to teach from. After all, you will be heading into schools, homes and country clubs and you need to show up as a professional. You can’t pull something from the internet or head to Barnes and Noble and copy a program from a book off the shelf.
Your Imagination: Mary Poppins Returns will flood your mind with all sorts of ideas on how to make your presentation fun and interesting for children and teens. When teaching, it is important that you find your own voice and this movie provides many ways to motivate you to get started doing just that!
We offer two training programs. There is no need to recreate the wheel. It takes time to write and create a manners curriculum. With Manners To Go, the work is already done for you….the lesson plans and curriculum and all the marketing and business plans.
Most likely we already share something in common. We believe that teaching children manners, character and social emotional skills are very important.
Manners To Go™ is a full-service company for those choosing to teach manners to children. You can make a difference. All children and teenagers deserve to feel what it is like to be confident, and use good manners out in the world.
Manners To Go™ is taught in public, private and charter schools around the world. The New York Times, Parents Magazine and Fox News have all featured Manners To Go and the many benefits of teaching social skills to children.
Whether you are an educator who wants to teach it in the classroom or someone who is looking to become trained and certified, we provide all the solutions.

13 Manners Tips You Can Teach Your Children From Mary Poppins Returns
Manners and Lessons To Teach from Mary Poppins Returns, The Movie: Run don’t walk to see Mary Poppins Returns! If you are interested in teaching manners to your children or students, this movie is for you.
There are endless opportunities to show your children during the film on how using good manners is easy and fun.Besides, this is one of the best movies of the year!
Emily Blunt is amazing as Mary Poppins….not to mention the music and the dancing.Of course, the children are charming.
1. Never Ask an Adult Their Age: Mary Poppins does not age.The children ask her how old she is and of course she is appalled.
2. Dress Appropriately and Bathe for the Occasion: The film is based at the turn of the century in London. The costumes are amazing. Even though this is a movie, you can point out how important it is to dress the part. Sweat pants have their time and place in our lives but most occasions in our daily lives call for a bit more of a dress code.
3. Realize When it is Time for Outside Assistance: Let’s face it, life is busy.Is it time to reduce the amount of extracurricular activities or hire a tutor so that you are not frazzled and cranky?
4. Sack of Tricks: Remember Mary Poppin’s bag?Well, it is back and during the movie she pulls all sorts of tricks out of it.Do you have a sack of entertainment for your children that is entertaining other than their tablet or phone?
5. Use Your Imagination:What can you put in your sack that might be something to help them use their imagination? How about a fun game that promotes conversation skills with their siblings or friends?
6. Spit Spot: This might seem a bit old fashioned, but do your children have CHORES!Can you make folding laundry and putting it away a game? Get them involved in meal prep and teach table manners at the same time. All of these chores are teaching basic life skills.
7.Use “May I”:The dialogue during the movie is great opportunity for your children to see and hear how to show respect to adults with the way they speak and use grammar. This will make parents and English teachers glow after watching the film.
8. Use Complete Sentences:Time and time again, parents ask me to emphasize how it is not polite to use a one-word sentence.
9. How much do you weigh Mary Poppins: No explanation necessary on this one!
10. One Piece of Candy from the Jar: In one scene, the children visit their father at the bank (he works there). The receptionist, offers a jar of candy. The children reach in and each take one.Teach your children to take one, and say “thank you”.
11. Don’t Focus on Where You Have Been but Where You Are Going:We can have little effect on what has occurred but so much effect on future results with a great attitude.
12. Enjoy YOUR ChildLike Essence with Your Children: Even in the face of adversity, a laugh, a smile and a song can make a world of difference.
13. No Where to Go but Up:With video games, questionable movies and tough events going on in our world, a little inspiration from this movie can go along way. Happiness and joy are a choice. The movie reminds of us this.

We were so impressed with all facets of Lisa’s program … not only the content and information that she shared with our children, but most importantly her approach. She made all of the instruction relatable to their ages and provided demonstrations of how these manners translate into every day situations for them in their world. Our children have really enjoyed teaching us what they have learned and they feel so grown-up to know the proper way to conduct themselves in a variety of different situations. We look forward to future “refresher” sessions with Lisa! I’m happy to give any type of referral that you might need – we just loved your program! ~ Kristen, Wayne, Pa
My friends and I thought Lisa did an incredibly good job with our group of 8 boys and girls ranging in age from 8 to 11. After the two sessions, they had a far better understanding of the importance of social interactions, eye contact, handshakes and ways to interface with adults. The session on table manners was very helpful and I have already noticed a major change at home. We would like to continue to have these important life skills front of mind for the children so will likely turn to Lisa again for some refreshers courses but this was a great first step! ~ Jennie, Wayne, Pa
Lisa had an approachable, practical way of guiding my daughters through the value of etiquette and a demonstration of proper manners. It was very effective and enjoyable for everyone. My daughters were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to integrate her tips and instruction into daily life. ~ Laura, Blue Bell, Pa
