Teaching Etiquette in St. Maarten: New Manners To Go Licensee
Elaine, who is located near St.Maarten, completed her third etiquette certification training session. A few days before our fourth session, she emailed to let me know the hurricane was approaching her island.
A few months later you can imagine how thrilled I was to receive an email from her letting me know she was well and her island was slowly but surely recovering. We made plans to meet in Florida so that she could finish her certification in person. She chose the 2 day in-person immersion option.
Our time together was memorable.
The Boys and Girls Club of Tampa experienced Elaine’s passion firsthand. She not only observed me teaching but also taught a portion of the class. Over 50 children attended our manners event.
Whew, we were busy! Later that afternoon, twelve Girl Scouts earned their Manners badge. The girls were served a meal so that they could learn everything there is to know about table manners.
Continue reading and you will learn more about Elaine. Welcome her to Manners To Go.

We talk about getting a fast start to your business at Manners To Go. Rita has done just that. Within a few weeks she was out talking about her new business. She quickly created a Facebook page and website. I am impressed.

What is the best advice you have given as a mother to another mother?
To be truly present in the lives of their children. To respect and understand what your child is going through. Always remember that they (the mother) have been young once too.
What is one place everyone should experience with children?
Disney World. It is so nice to see a child’s face light up as they take the different rides and watch the shows. You can also learn some lessons in manners and mindfulness there. You can teach children how to patiently stand in line, wait your turn at the restaurants, and be respectful to the employees at Disney.
How do you like to start your day?
I start my day with a 20-minute quiet time in prayer then I take my juice which is a mixture of fruits and greens.
One woman you would like to be for the day?
A broadcast journalist like Christian Amanpour. I think I can do this job very well since I have a keen interest in people.
I can’t stop talking about….
My children and how they make me proud and how happy I am for who they have become.

Do you like to spend time perusing the internet just for fun? I do. I have found this to be one of my guilty pleasures plus I love to learn and be resourceful.
This post is just that…for fun. I thought I would share with you some links that I find interesting and helpful in my personal life.
French Essence:
Are you a francophile? I am and have been following the blog, French Essence for years. With homes in Provence and London, Vicki Archer has a very full interesting life. She keeps me on my toes with fashion posts and her travels. I have both of her books and you can find her blog at this link.
Another source about all things French and of course fashion is Garance Dore’s podcast and blog. Recently, she interviewed Misty Copeland, the ballerina. Misty tells her story about being a shy child and how she found the world of dance.
Toll Brothers is a luxury home builder and they asked me to contribute to an article on dinner party etiquette. You can find my suggestions and read the article by clicking on this link.

Charge a fee for Thanksgiving? This one takes the cake! I have been asked many etiquette questions over the years, but never this one. Click the video above to see my answer and option.
CBS Philadelphia Wrote:
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –– Maybe this year you’re hosting Thanksgiving. It’s a lot of work to make the big meal, and it costs money. So, is it OK to charge your guests?
The question became a hot conversation on social media.
On social media, there was support on both sides, with the majority of people saying they would not cough up $30 for a dinner hosted by friends or family.
So, what if your loved ones charged per plate?
The idea recently sent the Twitterverse into a frenzy when word spread that someone’s aunt was charging $30 a head at her Thanksgiving table.
“When you offer to host an event at your home you have to accept responsibility and part of that is the financial piece of that,” said Richey.
Dealing with a bunch of freeloaders? Richey says you can always relinquish the responsibility.
“You don’t have to host, can have it at someone else’s house.”
So would you charge a fee?
